B-scan ultrasonography is a form of ocular ultrasound which uses the reflection of sound waves and produces a cross-sectional image of the internal structures of your eye. An ultrasound is used to evaluate the inside of an eye when a condition may limit what the doctor can see by just looking at the eye. The B-Scan can recognize a wide breadth of eye conditions and diseases, which include: vitreous bleeding, retinal detachments, intraocular tumors, inflammation, and more. In addition, A-Scan is used to accurately measure the distance between the cornea and retina to identify various eye tumors.

B-Scan ultrasonography What is ocular ultrasound? The ocular ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to highlight the tissues around and inside the eye. The generated image in the classic ocular ultrasound is two dimensional and black and white. It is a painless, non-invasive procedure which lasts less than five minutes. The B-scan is useful to indicate the position of a retinal or vitreous detachment, or of an intraocular foreign body or a tumour, and for the examination of the orbit. The B-scan is especially useful in the examination of the posterior structures of the eye when opacities prevent ophthalmoscopic examination (e.g.

B scan. The brightness scan gives a 2 dimensional display showing the size and echotexture of a lesion. Conventions during ocular ultrasound. The B scan probe has a marking. Conventionally the marking denotes the upper part of B scan. The orientation of B scan probe may be longitudinal, transverse or axial. The “B scan” is usually performed by placing the transducer on the patient’s closed eyelid.

B-scan ultrasonography, or B-scan, is a diagnostic test used in optometry and ophthalmology to produce a two-dimensional, cross-sectional view of the eye and the orbit.
The ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves that travel through the eye. Reflections (echoes) of the sound waves form a picture of the structure of the eye. A B-scan might reveal: Bleeding into the clear gel (vitreous) that fills the back of the eye (vitreous hemorrhage). Cancer of the retina (retinoblastoma), under the retina, or in other parts of the eye (such as cancer malignancy).

Ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) is performed with a much higher frequency than the A and B scans and is primarily used to evaluate the anterior chamber angle and ciliary body. B-scan ultrasound examination typically shows a smooth, thick, Diagnostic Ophthalmic Ultrasound. Rudolf F. Guthoff, A-scan and B-scan are both types of ultrasound examinations performed for eye evaluation.; A detailed eye examination tells not only about the structures of the eyes but also about any underlying health conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes.; Several techniques have evolved for the routine examination of the eyes or to plan eye surgeries (such as cataract surgeries). A new code, CPT 76510 ophthalmic ultrasound, diagnostic; B-scan and quantitative A-scan performed during the same patient encounter, is to be used when both a quantitative A-scan and B-scan are performed simultaneously. In that case, use code 76510–eye modifier or, when bilaterally medically indicated, 76510–50.
